Arnold Schwarzenegger is opening up about his affair with housekeeper Mildred Baena, which ended his marriage to Maria Shriver.
“Remember it’s not like we had a feud,” he explained to People magazine in an interview published on Sunday. “We didn’t have a fight.”
He added: “It’s just my f–k-up.”
The “Terminator” actor and Shriver were married for 25 years before they split in 2011 after the scandal. Baena also welcomed her and Schwarzenegger’s son Joseph five days after Shriver gave birth to son Christopher Schwarzenegger.
Despite their rocky past, the former California governor and Shriver have appeared to remain amicable.
“My chapter with Maria will continue on forever,” he told People. “Even though it’s a different relationship, there’s no reason for me to feel anything other than love for her.”
He added: “We always made it very clear that the kids should not suffer because of [my affair]. And she has her things, her relationship, I have mine [with Heather Milligan], but we always communicate about the kids, about the holidays, about birthday parties and Mother’s Day parties and Christmas.”
The exes also share daughters Katherine, 33 and Christina, 32, as well as son Patrick, 30.
Schwarzenegger has also maintained a bond with Katherine’s husband, actor Chris Pratt. In June, Katherine posted a photo of her dad and husband in honor of Father’s Day.
“Happy fathers to day to these guys! We love you a big one!” she shared an Instagram photo of the pair smoking cigars at the time.
“I mean, there’s nothing manlier than Arnold Schwarzenegger smoking a cigar,” Pratt later told Jimmy Fallon of the snapshot. “And when you’re part of, you know, bringing his granddaughter into the world, he comes and he brings you a cigar and he’s like, ‘Let’s go out and smoke these.'”
Schwarzenegger has also supported son Joseph through the years — including his stint on Season 31 of “Dancing With the Stars” last year.
“He watches every night,” he said of his dad to Entertainment Tonight in October 2022. “He keeps saying, every week, he’s like ‘Jesus Christ, I can’t even believe that you can move like that!’ Because our family’s not known for dancing, especially on my dad’s side.”
