BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Firefighting progress remains slow but steady, fighting the East Fire 10 miles east of Cascade, Idaho.
Boise National Forest (BNF) reports that the fire scene received nearly half an inch of rain overnight Saturday, relieving smoke from some hotspot areas to the west and north of the main fire body.
Firefighters have contained 23% of the fire, aided by the overnight rain. BNF reports fire activity has remained minimal, allowing firefighters to focus on hotspots north of the fire, which have caught from embers being blown some distance from the fire.
More than 400 fire personnel are battling the East Fire, currently reported at 3,313 acres.
