ORIGIN
Morray is an American vocalist, rapper, and songwriter from North Carolina. He found success in the competitive music space with his unique mix of R&B, hip-hop, and trap. In 2020, the Fayetteville-native made his mark with breakout single “Quicksand.” His debut project, Street Sermons (2021), further solidifies his status as someone to keep an eye on. Morray is currently signed to Pick Six Records and Interscope Records. He’s received co-signs from the likes of J. Cole, DaBaby and Rick Ross among others.

Morray was born Morae Ruffin on September 9, 1992, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He grew up in a Christian household and was a member of his local church choir. In addition to gospel music, he also grew up listening to R&B. As a teenager, Morae spent several years living in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. During his stay, he got into East Coast rap. Morray recognizes Canadian rapper/singer Drake as one of his early influences. After listening to Drake, he decided to sing and rap instead of choosing one over the other.

In March 2020, Morray dropped his debut single “Quicksand.” It was released commercially by Interscope Records in October 2020. Quicksand talks about his struggles, perseverance, and survival. It definitely hit home with fans. The track has 38+ million streams on Spotify, peaked at #65 on the Billboard Hot 100, sold 500K+ copies, and was certified Gold by the RIAA. The jaxofnorth-directed video for Quicksand has been viewed more than 86 million times.

For the remainder of 2020, Morray released songs “Switched Up”, “Low Key”, and “Dreamland.” He collaborated with Mo Chedda on the tracks “Snitch On Ya Man’s” and “In Da Trap.” That year, Morray was also named to Billboard’s Emerging Artists Spotlight. Morray is currently managed by Moe Shalizi (Pick Six Records). In April 2021, a joint venture deal was struck between Pick Six and Interscope Records.

Morray’s debut mixtape, Street Sermons, was released in April 2021 by Page Six and Interscope. It climbed to #41 on the Billboard 200, and #20 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The 13-track tape includes songs like “Big Decisions”, “Kingdom” and “Trenches.” Morray appeared on the single “My Life” opposite 21 Savage off J. Cole’s 6th album The Off-Season (2021).

Morray’s net worth is estimated at $2 million USD. His height is around 5ft 6in. Before going all-in with music, Morray worked in the construction industry and later at a call center.
